Nitish Kumar Sengupta, a member of the Indian Administrative Service, was born on the 8th of July 1933. He studied history in Presidency College, Calcutta and belonged to the batch of 1953. He was the Revenue Secretary of the Government of India before retiring and being elected Member of Parliament for West Bengal.

He has written 12 books, some of which include My Times and The History of the Bengali-speaking People, and has delivered lectures at venues across the world.
